Auto-expand

Update tables, charts, and pivot tables automatically with each query run

Auto-expand enables tables, charts, and pivot tables to automatically update with each query run. This is useful for ensuring that analyses are up-to-date without the need to manually copy & paste data or expand ranges on charts and pivots.

Tables

With auto expand, summary tables can update automatically as queried data expands. To enable auto expand:

  1. Run a query. Create a summary table that aggregates data from the queried output over time.
  2. Click on the icon that appears in the upper left corner of the first cell in the summary table. Or, select the summary table range and right-click to select "Auto expand" from the drop-down.
  3. Set the query to run on a scheduled basis, or modify the query to return data for future time periods.

The formulas and formatting in the summary table will be automatically copied horizontally or vertically to expand the table and include these future periods. To disable auto expand, click on the same icon.

Charts

Charts will always automatically update in Equals when the source data is modified or changed. Charts require no additional setup for these changes to be reflected dynamically.

For example, if a chart references queried data and the data changes after a query run, the chart will automatically update. Similarly, if the data in a table referenced by the chart is modified manually or via auto-expand, the chart will automatically update.

Pivot tables

Pivots will always automatically update in Equals when the source data is modified or changed. Pivot tables, like charts, require no additional setup for these changes to be reflected.

For example, if a pivot table references queried data and the data changes after a query run, the pivot will automatically update. Similarly, if the data in a table referenced by a pivot is modified manually or via auto-expand, the pivot table will automatically update.

FAQ

Will auto-expanding tables, charts, and pivots update in my dashboard?

Tables, charts, and pivots that are included in a dashboard will always reflect the source data. They will auto-expand if the source table or chart auto-expands.

How often does auto-expand update the data in tables, charts, and pivots?

Auto-expand updates the data in tables, charts, and pivot tables automatically whenever a query is run or whenever the underlying data changes. The frequency of updates depends on how often the query is scheduled to run.

Is there a limit to the amount of data that can be auto-expanded?

Equals does not impose limits on the amount of data that can be auto-expanded. However, your data will not auto-expand once it has reached the row or column limit available in your spreadsheet.
